Hobart Hills CLT House | Mass Timber in West Hobart
Perched high above the River Derwent, this residence is a study in structural innovation and uncompromising comfort.
The Project: This home in West Hobart is designed to frame breathtaking views of the Derwent while prioritising the health and well-being of its occupants. Utilising Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) as the primary structure, the project represents a gutsy commitment from the client to sustainable, modern building methods. The interior warmth of the exposed timber is protected by a high-performance external envelope, featuring wood fibre and XPS insulation to ensure a stable, silent indoor environment regardless of the weather outside.
The On-Site Strategy: Bringing a CLT project to life on a steep Hobart site requires extreme technical precision and a highly coordinated construction process. As the certifying architects, we worked closely with the CLT suppliers KLH on the design development and construction documentation required to translate a sophisticated design into reality.
