Banyula Butterfly | Tamar River High-Performance Home

Poised on the banks of the Tamar River, this residence focuses on occupant health, comfort, and a permanent connection to the water.

The Project: Located in Deviot, just 30 minutes north of Launceston, this home is designed to frame breathtaking river views while prioritising a rigorous building science approach. To keep the project on budget without compromising on performance, the design utilises a straightforward 90mm timber frame and warm timber roof construction. The "health" of the home is powered by a mechanical ventilation system (HRV), thermally broken aluminium frames, and continuous insulation detailing—ensuring a stable, mould-free indoor environment year-round.

The On-Site Strategy: Building in Deviot presents unique challenges, particularly regarding landslip-prone terrain. To mitigate risk, we designed a robust foundation system that reduced construction time and got the project "out of the ground" safely. Our early collaboration with Zanetto Builders allowed us to resolve complex site and structural issues long before they presented on-site. This partnership ensures that the architectural intent is matched by construction efficiency, delivering a high-performance home that is both technically sound and cost-effective.
